Farm Kitchen
Under the umbrella of Farm School, the Farm Kitchen curriculum is developed to support children’s skills in practical food technology and food hygiene, alongside the children building and developing a range of strategies and skills that produce media content with the wider school community and beyond. We intend to provide creative and practical experiences for all pupils with the opportunity to problem solve and develop their own creative ideas as individuals and as part of a team. This approach in engaging the children in speaking and communicating within digital literacy and in social communications develop key Oracy skills in understanding the physical, linguistic, cognitive and social and emotional skills that enable successful discussion, inspiring speech and effective communication
We will work alongside Farm School and make products with ingredients grown from our school site. During their time in Farm Kitchen children will take part in a range of activities from growing, harvesting, producing a product to sell, and catering an event they have planned and organised. Upper KS2 children will achieve Level 1 Food Hygiene qualification. During their time in food school we will discuss crucial topics of food sustainability, nutrition and review and explore the issues and problems that these present. The children develop an understanding of financial awareness as they seek to make a profit from produce and as this develops pupils will explore their experience in contributing to the village life and understanding their role within the wider society.
In addition to the invaluable experience they’re gaining from Farm Kitchen, they’re sharing the benefits with the entire school community. Farm Kitchen is providing a platform for engagement with community groups and parents. Every term the children will invite, host and make food for a community group event. Through this curriculum it is our intent to provide opportunities for children to develop strong and meaningful experiences, vocabulary and develop their personal and social skills and understanding. The provision allows many opportunities for the children to develop their understanding and use of the British Values. Friday Focus has an integral application of curriculum subjects to develop deep, meaningful and inspirational learning. This is underpinned by a challenging sequence of lessons, coherently planned towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and resulting in deep understanding and application of skills to last a lifetime.
