Willow Class Blooms with Balance, Building, and Beliefs!
Last week in Willow Class, learning has been a whirlwind of activity, focused on balance, creativity, and understanding our responsibilities as members of our classroom and wider society. The highlight for many was undoubtedly the visit from the Balanceability team. The children had an absolute blast learning the fundamentals of bike riding, with a focus on safe practices and developing those all-important core balancing skills. The Balanceability session wasn't just about bikes though; the team emphasized how core balance development impacts other vital areas of learning, laying a foundation for future success.
But balance wasn't confined to the playground! In maths, the theme continued as the students explored comparative mass. Using the outdoor area, they built their very own balance scales and eagerly compared the weights of different objects, even extending the experiment to include their friends! The children also explored using glass beads as a unit of measurement, adding a tactile dimension to their understanding of weight and quantity.
Over in literacy, the classic tale of "The Three Little Pigs" came to life. Beyond simply enjoying the story, the children delved into the fascinating world of pigs, researching interesting facts and then letting their artistic flair run wild in drawing club, using the pigs as their inspiration.
On the PSHE front, Willow Class tackled the concept of voting and its importance within society. The children thoughtfully discussed our Willow Class values: "We all have a voice, we are free to make our own choices, we are kind to everyone, we follow rules to keep us safe and we understand people believe different things." They explored how these values, along with our class rules of "be safe, be respectful and be ready," link to fundamental British values, fostering a sense of responsibility and understanding.
Finally, in Science, the animal theme continued with a focus on comparing different animals. Thinking critically about which animals make good pets, the class then conducted a mini survey to determine the most popular pet in Willow Class. The results were clear: dogs and cats reigned supreme, topping the bar chart with their furry appeal!
