Willow Class Weekly Roundup: Rabbits, Numbers, and Bugs!
It's been another busy and engaging week for Willow Class, packed with literary adventures, numerical explorations, and some real-life bug hunting! Our key focus has been the delightful story of "Little Rabbit Foo Foo," a character who certainly keeps us on our toes.
We kicked off the week by diving deep into the characters of "Little Rabbit Foo Foo" – honing our artistic skills to draw them and then flexing our phonics muscles to create magical passwords befitting their personalities. The real fun started when we challenged ourselves to devise new and exciting ways for Little Rabbit Foo Foo to make amends for his boisterous behaviour. The children's imaginations ran wild, with innovative ideas ranging from magical speeding-up potions to enchanting umbrellas and even... roller skates! This creative activity also allowed us to expand our vocabulary, introducing the words ACCELERATING, DISAPPROVE, WARNING, STRIKING, GATHER, DISREGARD, METAMORPHOSIS, and COMEUPPENCE - all relevant to the story and its moral.
Transitioning to the world of mathematics, we have been delving into the numbers 6, 7, and 8. We started by visually representing these numbers on tens frames, a fantastic way to solidify understanding. Building upon this, we explored the concepts of "one more" and "one less," further developing our number sense. To wrap up the week, we enjoyed the story of "Simon Sock," which served as a perfect introduction to the world of pairs, laying the groundwork for our upcoming lessons on odd and even numbers.
Finally, we embarked on a fascinating scientific journey into the world of minibeasts! We revisited the fundamental difference between living and non-living things, reminding ourselves of the characteristics that define life. The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our bug hunt! Armed with magnifying glasses and boundless enthusiasm, we ventured outdoors to discover the hidden world of insects, spiders, and other tiny creatures!
